The Kingsway United CFC 18’s (Stallions) and 16’s (Colts) boys teams warmed up for the season with Friendly Matches against our Sunday League neighbours Wanneroo City on Saturday 6th April 2013.
The day kicked off with the Stallions taking on the Wanneroo City 1st Division 18’s reserves team. The game was played at a high standard with both teams showing good touch. The Stallions, playing the harder brand of Football, got out to a 3 – 1 lead with 20 minutes of the game remaining. The Stallions were forced down to 10 players from this point due to an injury to one of their players and conceded 2 late goals. The game finished in a 3 – 3 draw with plenty of positives to take out of the game for Coach Russel Seymour.
The later game saw the Colts take the field for their first competitive game for the season and they wasted no time in seizing control of the game. The Colts were never troubled as they marched to a 5 Nil lead at half time on the back of some very good team play and dominance in the midfield. Coach Gary Williams changed the team structure around after half time to try out players in different positions. The second half, played in very warm conditions was a much tighter affair with a late goal to the Colts sealing a very impressive 6 Nil victory.
Special thanks to Junior President, Dean Bell, from Wanneroo City Soccer Club for helping to arrange the friendly matches and for allowing us to play on the Wanneroo City main pitch. This was a great day for Kingsway United Christian Football Club and shows that our players can match it well with the Sunday League teams.
